recapping

sometimes, david and i try to remember what we've done in the last week. things get so busy, suddenly we can't quite recall what we did just a few days before. we work backwards, from sunday to saturday to friday, and try to uproot all the fuzzy memories.

as david dropped me off last night, we surmised that we'd had a very good, full week. so now, i'm going to try to recount it here, before i forget.

monday: we tutored our kids at freedom for youth. david has a new boy that he is tutoring, and they seem to get along great. jadaisha was adorable and naughty, as usual. afterwards, we grabbed coffee at smokey row and edited our registry. we could have watched an episode of the office later, or maybe it was SNL. can't totally remember.

tuesday: long meeting at work, but we watched a dvd where gary haugen (founder of international justice mission) spoke on the adventure of faith - how we need to choose not to be safe, and it really spoke to me. he spoke a lot on Jesus's heart for justice too, which seems to always bring tears to my eyes. after work, david and i went on a bike ride. we rode all the way over to our new place and found the beginning of the trails. on the way back, we grabbed groceries for dinner. we made delicious breaded chicken with lemon dijon sauce and watched LOST. pretty startling and sad episode. then we met up w/emily, mary, zach, tracy, joe, & tracy's sister at val air lanes for some bowling and $1 beer. i secretly hate bowling, so i just watched, but it was a funny time.

wednesday: prepped for the carnival at work. squeezed in a quick run with david on a new trail before heading back to church for said carnival. i supervised kids in bounce houses while david and brent played ultimate frisbee. after clean-up, we headed over to zach's house. they were making delicious vegetarian sweet potato burritos. i probably ate too much. then we all sat around watching arrested development episodes.

thursday: crazy day at work, running all over des moines, trying to find random supplies for our vbs kick-off. in the midst of it all, i got lunch w/liz at the gateway market and dropped her off at the airport. the evening was my last night of work at caribou. unbeknown to me, david had gathered some friends to come in and have a "retirement party" in my honor. he showed up with tracy, joe, and emily, and sarah and amanda and brent & fam all arrived shortly after, with balloons and a retirement card. it was really thoughtful, and pretty humorous. afterwards, we spent some time with zach and mary at my place. they were both slightly inebriated, and were cracking each other up. it was fun to watch.

friday: i ended up working almost the whole day, making a "sail" out of goodwill sheets, a carpet tube, and wooden dowels. then i had a quick workout before meeting up with david to get dinner at spaghetti works. it was a 40 minute wait, but the salad bar and pasta were well worth it. then we went to see the movie "babies" at the fleur cinema. i had been waiting for this movie for months, and it didn't disappoint.

saturday: freezing farmer's market in the morning. the upside was it wasn't too crowded. we got hot coffee from java joes, saw kaylynn and courtney, and i got the pupusa i've been craving for months. delicious. then we met up with david's parents. we ate at palmer's deli, then caryn and i drove over to my first wedding shower. it was mostly church ladies, and some family. denise did a really sweet devotion, and we had lots of good conversation. i got some awesome gifts too. after, we met back up w/david and his dad, got coffee, showed them our new apartment, and drove around south of grand looking at huge houses. after his parents left, we saw matt at the colonade, and he invited us to go see iron man. i wasn't too keen on the idea, but we haven't hung out w/matt in a long while. so, after debating and eating some chinese, we decided to go. we spent a little time at barnes & noble with matt, amy, and sarah, before going to the movie. it was okay. probably not worth 9 bucks, but oh well.

sunday: i was up early, running around at church, trying to get all these last minute things taken care of. i felt kind of frazzled. kids sang at the 10:30 service, so i helped them do their actions. after, david and i went to my parents to give my mom a card and flowers. we then got jimmy john's and went over to the new apartment, where we ate our first meal there (at our very own nook). my parents came over to see it and (after a few predictable comments about how small the kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, etc. is) they said they thought it was cute. i took a long and much needed nap most of sunday afternoon. then we went back over to my parents since my dad was grilling burgers. it was good to catch up w/jenalee & have dinner w/the fam. that evening, when david went to biblestudy, i went for a long run. it felt really good. then i went over to erin's new place, where people were gathering for a game night. i got to meet dana's boyfriend, and after a tour (their place is phenomenal!) and some chit-chat, we decided to play settlers. i'd never played it before, but ended up really getting into it. it was so fun, but the game was still nowhere near over at 12:30, so we let wayde win with his 8 points and called it good.
