i suppose i'm due for a few new words. the months of january and february often hold a lull in life, though if you look hard enough, the noteworthy can be found in-betweeen the mundane. i've appreciated the calm, after such a hectic december. but in the peaceful quiet come the questions of 'what next?' and 'how long'? i often feel i'm on the hinges of the next step, but i still don't know what it is. there are still so many dreams, so many adventures bubbling to the surface of my being, but which ones do i chase, and which ones do i lay down? they're almost like ghosts.
the other night i was in bed, and i could almost taste the saltiness in the air coming off the coast of the indian ocean. i missed australia and scarborough beach more than i had in months. i want to take david there, and i want him to know every corner of fremantle, i want to take him on the train to the markets of subiaco and i want to share some 3 AM coffee at exomod. these things seem so far away now, but i lived them everyday, and though they were my momentary mundane, i treasured them, knowing how fleeting it would become.
i should treasure each day like that - knowing i will look back someday and this will all seem so unique. that is the point of this blog, partially, to try and take stock in these days. i know i need to do a better job. i try to keep my heart in a state of thankfulness, and i know in time, the next steps will be clear. and maybe i will never make it back to australia, and maybe i'll never live in des moines again, but really i don't have a clue. and that's okay.
