yesterday was a good day. the sun was shining, the air held a hint of warmth, the earth smelled damp. after a thoughtful morning conversation trying to dissect the undercurrent of christian themes in LOST in the church office, i grabbed lunch w/amanda. i felt like a jerk for getting lost and being late, but it was great to sit and chat with her at lucca. i know winter brings out the solitary nature in me, but i need to make an effort to connect w/the people around me - it's always worth it.
i got in a good run in the late afternoon. at first i felt all disjointed and wobbly - it takes me awhile to get into a rhythm. but once i get going, i love the hypnotic, steady drumming of my feet and the timing of each breath. i wish i could run farther. i want to run a race with my dad, but for now, 25 minutes will have to suffice. i can't wait to run outside again. treadmills feel a little artificial.
wednesday night activities were absolute insanity at the church- but i know exactly how the kids feel. cabin fever has set in early this year with all the snow and ice burying everything. every single kid just wanted to run and run and run. i can't blame them. i did sense some worship among the chaos, which makes it all worth it. i am so grateful for the adults that help out each week. we couldn't function without them.
after church, david and i went over to the guys place for a reincarnated soup night. it was great. the combination of people, conversations, and games was just right. tons of laughter and silliness. we even got some planning in for the spring, and created official titles for each member of the urban garden committee. i am thankful for these des moines friendships. just when i think our little community may be dissolving, i start to realize spring isn't so far away, and we will make it through this season. change is inevitable, but that doesn't mean it's bad.
